When a human body is exposed to the electromagnetic radiation, it absorbs radiation, because human body consists of 70% liquid. It is similar to that of cooking in the microwave oven were in the food content is heated here the water first. • Risk to Children and Pregnant Women- Children are more prone to these radiations as their skulls are thinner and still developing. Stud ies by Dr. Om Gandhi show that radiation penetration in the head of an adult while using a mobile phone is 25%, in a 10 year old it is 50% and in a 5-year old it is 75%. Also pregnant women and older people are more susceptible to radiations.
• Irreversible infertility-Continuous exposure of RFcan cause reduction in Sperm Viability and Mobility by around 25 % in mean. Radiation from cell phone can also prod uce DNA breaks in sperm cells that can mutate and causes cancer. Damage to sperm DNA increases the risk further and can pass on the genetic changes too subsequent generations.
• DNA damage- Microwave radiations can also interfere with the natural processes involved in DNA replication and repair, by subtly altering molecular conformation (architecture). Another possibility of DNA damage is via free radical formation inside cells.
• Interference with other equipments-Electromagnetic interference (EMI) from mobile phone towers can cause malfunctioning of life-line electronic gadgets in the hospitals thereby potentially endangering patients. It is also advisable to restrict mobile phone use in clinical areas like operating theatres and intensive care units. RF exposure from mobile phones and cellular phone base antennas can also affect patients carrying Pace Maker, Implantable Cardiovascular Defibrillators (ICDs) and Impulse Generators. The signals generated by mobile phones towers cause electromagnetic interference with the device and interfere with its proper functioning.
• Effect on Skin-The symptoms of Morgellons disease include those of electromagnetic hypersensitivity (EHS); may be based on how body uses electric currents to repair wounds to the skin. People who suffer from this condition report a range of skin symptoms including crawling, biting and stinging sensations; granules, threads or black speck-like materials on or beneath the skin and/or lesions (e.g., rashes or sores). EMFs degrade the immune system and stimulate various allergic and inflammatory responses.
• Sleep Disorders- Electromagnetic fields have been shown to affect the brain physiology. Exposure of RF disturbs sleep, the stage important for full recuperation of brain and body. It also delays and reduces sleep, and causes headaches, confusion and depression. The findings are especially alarming for children and teenagers as they use cell phones at night and also keep the phone next to their head; which may lead to mood and personality changes, depression, lack of concentration and poor academic performance.
• The Blood Brain Barrier- The brain is protected by tight junctions between adjacent cells of capillary walls by the blood brain barrier (BBB), which selectively lets nutrients pass through from the blood to the brain, but keeps toxic substances out. RF from mobile phones towers can significantly open the BBB and cause leakage of albumin from blood vessels in inappropriate locations (neurons and glial cells surrounding the capillaries) in the brain.
