Food Safety Management System (FSMS Plan) & Recall Plan

Under the current Indian regulation defined by the FSS Act 2006, a Food Safety Management System (FSMS) means the adoption of Good Manufacturing Practices, Good Hygienic Practices, Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point and such other practices as may be specified by regulation, for the food business.

In simple words it’s a document which says what activities you follow to ensure Food Safety at your premise.

As per Clause 28 of the Food Safety Standards Act, 2006, “If a food business operator considers or has reasons to believe that a food which he has processed, manufactured or distributed is not in compliance with this Act, or the rules or regulations made there under, he shall immediately initiate procedures to withdraw & inform the competent authorities to prevent risks to the consumer.

In simple words it’s a document which says what you will do when the food which you have placed in the market may be unsafe for the consumers to prevent, reduce, or eliminate a risk arising from a food.

Why Should I go for FSMS Plan & Recall plan?

Initially, this was considered to be document required filing your applications for license, however, that has now changed and as we all know for the purpose of license; the Affidavit does the trick for us. But what most of forget to realize is that we eventually require to demonstrate our implementation of standards & compliance to the law.
As per Clause 28 of the Food Safety Standards Act, 2006, every food business operator shall follow conditions & guidelines relating to food Safety and recall procedures as the food authority may specify by regulations.
